Dr. Laura G. Barrientos, Ph.D.
Position: President/Lab Director
Dr. Barrientos is IntelliGenetics' President and AABB-approved Relationship Testing Lab Director. In December 2015, Dr.
Barrientos proudly made Atlanta (GA) the new home for IntelliGenetics, which is the only AABB-Accredited Laboratory in
Georgia and three adjacent states. Dr. Barrientos is a Biochemist and Structural Biologist with 20+ years of research and
hands-on laboratory experience, as well as an adroit businesswoman. Part of her work as scientist includes 9 years combined
of ebolavirus research at a premier Structural Biology lab at the National Institute of Health (NIH, Bethesda, MD) and the
renowned Special Pathogens Branch at the Headquarters of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, Atlanta, Georgia).
In recent years, she has concentrated her practice in entrepreneurship and scientific and technical consultancy.
Dr. Barrientos is the author of 22 scientific publications and 1 review article appearing in the peer-reviewed literature, and 1 subject matter expert white paper. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Costa Rica and her Ph.D. degree from Michigan Technological University. Dr. Barrientos is a 2019 Academy of Arts and Science inductee. She was inducted into Michigan Technological University, College of Sciences and Arts Academy of Distinguished Alumni on October 10, 2019.
Dr. Charles M. Kelly, Ph.D.
Position: Vice President/Emeritus Laboratory Director
Dr. Kelly is IntelliGenetics' Vice President and Emeritus Lab Director. His expertise helps ensure that IntelliGenetics provides the best service possible for the DNA-based resolution of relationship questions in your case. He has over 25 years of experience in the parentage establishment field. Dr. Kelly has reviewed hundreds of thousands of parentage cases, testified in hundreds of disputed parentage proceedings, participated in the identification of the victims of the World Trade Center attacks, and given presentations before professional groups on the topics of parentage testing for immigration, adoption, and civil child support. He was the Presenter of a recent AABB Webinar Entitled “Elementary Probability as Applied to Biological Relationship Determination”, which was intended for Parentage Laboratory Managers and Technologists. He also presented, along with Dr. Robert Wenk of the AABB, a talk on “Human Chimera” for the AABB continuing education series of 2016. Dr. Kelly is currently serving as the Chair of Relationship Testing Accreditation Committee for AABB.
Dr. Kelly received his Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University.
